Job Summary
We are seeking a suitably experienced Dietitian to join our established team of 15 Neuro and Critical Care Dietitians, contributing to the delivery of high‑quality care for patients treated at Cambridge University Hospitals.
This is a 10‑month secondment opportunity within the Stroke team, providing maternity leave cover. The successful candidate will be supported by Senior Neuro and Critical Care Dietitians and work closely with a specialist multidisciplinary team. The role involves caring for stroke patients from admission through the hyper‑acute stroke unit to rehabilitation and discharge, supporting those requiring artificial nutrition and dysphagia management.
Job Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
* Acting as part of the Dietetic Team in collaboration with Neurosciences and Critical Care teams to support dietetic services across the department.
* Contributing to developments in IDDSI, dysphagia care, artificial feeding and streamlining services regionally, in partnership with Band 7 and Band 8a Dietitians at Addenbrooke’s and other external units.
* Working within a multi‑professional framework and providing evidence‑based clinical practice, education, research and audit.
* Setting and achieving individual and team objectives that reflect corporate plans and operating within the clinical governance framework.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* State Registered Dietitian.
* Appropriate postgraduate level degree or diploma (e.g. Diploma in Advanced Dietetic Practice) or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
Experience
* Essential: Good general experience in a busy ward environment, preferably acute; knowledge and interest in stroke and rehabilitation; proven development work.
* Desirable: Stroke and rehabilitation or neurosciences experience; student training experience; experience with MDT work, NHS experience.
Knowledge
* Essential: Up‑to‑date with current general issues in dietetics; demonstrates good clinical practice.
* Desirable: Appreciates own limitations; up‑to‑date with stroke and rehabilitation practice/evidence.
Skills
* Essential: Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; works well in a team and can work on own initiative; time‑management and organisation; prepared to deal with sensitive issues; able to concentrate during emotionally distressing interactions; conveys complex ideas in simple language; functions effectively in busy clinical settings.
* Desirable: Computer literate (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); able to learn new computerised programmes such as EPIC.
