Primary Care Pharmacy Technician

Main duties of the job
The PCIC Clinical Board is pleased to invite applications for the position of Band 5 Primary Care Prescribing Support Technician with the primary care Prescribing Team.
This is an opportunity to gain a wider perspective of pharmacy across the interface and experience working in a primary care setting with GP practices and community pharmacies in primary care in Cardiff and the Vale.
The successful candidate will utilise their skills working in the Prescribing Team alongside the prescribing advisors. The role will be varied and will support the delivery of safe, cost effective, evidence based prescribing. Work in GP practices will include delivering Medicines Management Cost Efficiency Schemes and training prescribing clerks as well as ensuring Cardiff and Vale patients receive high quality and safe community pharmacy services through the monitoring of contractual compliance and supporting development of enhanced services.
The post holder will require good communication and influencing skills and will have a knowledge and understanding of clinical governance requirements and standards. They will have the ability to work alone when required but will be very much part of a team. They will have experience of working collaboratively with a wide range of health professionals and staff.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Qualified BTEC Pharmaceutical Technician or equivalent (NVQ level 3, City & guilds Pharmaceutical Sciences)
* Registered technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Knowledge
* Basic knowledge of LHB role in provision of health care and medicines management in primary care
* Understanding of the role of GP and community pharmacists in the supply of medicine
* Awareness of law and practice issues related to storage and handling of medicines
Experience
* Experience in working in primary care
Skills
* Computer literate; competent in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* General understanding of Primary care and prescribing issues.
* Ability to write clearly and present clear and accurate reports
* Knowledge of GP computer systems
* Experience of interpreting and handling data e.g. CASPA or prescribing data.
* Experience of clinical audit

* Must be able to work under own initiative without direct supervision
* Good communication, both written and oral, presentation and interpersonal skills
* Reliable and self-motivated, flexible and enthusiastic
* Must be an effective team player
* Ability to develop and sustain good working relationships with independent contractors and other primary care staff
