First Community Health and Care is situated in the heart of the SouthEast with excellent transportation links to the capital. We are a small and friendly organisation, with a range of therapy services working across a variety of clinical sites located in e.g. Redhill, Caterham, Horley and Oxted.

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic HCPC registered Podiatrist. The vacancy is a full time permanent position Band 6. We would consider part‑time, job share and offer flexible working to support a balance between work and personal life.

You will have the opportunity to broaden your experience and work within a supportive and stimulating multidisciplinary community environment. You will need to be an enthusiastic, flexible and an adaptive team player, communicate well with other team members and patients whilst being punctual, reliable and committed to providing a high level of patient care.

We work primarily in community clinics; however, you may see some patients in care homes and their own homes too.


Main duties of the job

The post involves working autonomously with a wide range of patients focusing on wound care at a specialist level including supporting the High‑Risk lead to provide specialist podiatry intervention at East Surrey Hospital. Direct access to advanced wound care treatments including a range of offloading appliances. The successful applicant will be expected to provide care in both clinical and domiciliary settings, taking a pro‑active approach in the prevention, assessment and management of wounds involving patients with complex medical needs. The role will involve rotations within nail surgery & podiatry clinic as well as the opportunity to work within the Multi‑Disciplinary Diabetic Foot Team clinic when required. You will be guided by comprehensive policies and a supportive team, to assess, diagnose, develop, and implement individual programmes of care for patients. Our patients present with a wide range of clinical needs, including acute and chronic neuropathies, chronic diseases, vascular problems and wound management.

Job responsibilities

* Assessing and treating own caseload of podiatry patients who may have complex presentations whilst maintaining own records as an autonomous practitioner.
* Treating a podiatry diabetes, high risk and vascular caseload, who may present with a variety of symptoms.
* Providing a high standard of clinical work which will also include teaching and the supervision of junior staff, assistants and students.
* Treat a general routine caseload and participate in the nail surgery sessions.
* To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and to organise this efficiently and effectively with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.


Person Specification


Skills

* Competency and ability to assess and treat core patient caseload in specialist field
* Articulate and good communication skills
* Basic IT skills
* Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate
* Basic presentation skills
* Total Contact Casting and other casting techniques.


Knowledge

* Comprehensive clinical knowledge of diabetes, high risk & MSK conditions, impact and management.
* Clinical knowledge of MSK conditions, impact and management.
* Up‑to‑date in Podiatric MSK, diabetes and high risk theory and practice.
* Working knowledge of relevant National Service Frameworks, NICE Guidance and current NHS initiatives in High Risk & MSK Care
* Knowledge of current NHS legislation and its relevance to the Podiatry Service
* Knowledge of pharmacology relevant to this field of practice


Qualifications

* HCPC registration
* Evidence of CPD
* Post‑graduate training relevant to clinical speciality
* Member of a recognised Podiatry Association
* Evidence of a Society Diabetic Foot Module or similar equivalent training


Experience

* Good evidence of post qualification experience including the assessment and management of the diabetes and high risk foot
* Experience of working as part of a Podiatry Team and/or MDT
* Evidence of student or podiatry assistant supervision


Other

* Ability to travel between sites and work in the community

£39,959 to £48,117 a year +5% HCAS per annum, pro rata
