Principal Ecologist – WSP, UK & Ireland
WSP invites a Principal Ecologist to join our growing Ecology Team in Cardiff, delivering high‑impact ecological consulting on landmark projects across the UK and Ireland.
What You’ll Do
* Plan and conduct Phase 1 habitat and protected species surveys (badger, otter, bat, great crested newt).
* Prepare ecological tender deliverables: Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, EIAR chapters, Habitats Regulations Appraisals.
* Lead client liaison, project and programme management, including negotiation with regulators and stakeholders.
* Mentor junior team members and nurture a collaborative, inclusive team culture.
* Attend regular Ecology team meetings and contribute to knowledge sharing.
What We’re Looking For
* Senior academic qualification or equivalent ecological expertise.
* Deep experience across Scottish habitats and success in securing NatureScot derogation licences.
* Proven skill in Ecological Impact Assessment and EIAR chapter writing.
* Experience with Habitat Regulations Appraisal and policy negotiation.
* Strong communication, solution‑focused and proactive leadership.
