Job Overview

Are you ready to play a key role in delivering an outstanding catering service within a busy hospital environment? Our Catering Team at Frimley Park Hospital is looking for a motivated and reliable Assistant Storeman to support the smooth running of our procurement and stock systems.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated team committed to providing high-quality food and excellent customer care to patients, staff and visitors every day.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the Storeman, Head Chef, Food Service Managers and Catering Managers, you will help ensure catering supplies are ordered, received, stored and distributed efficiently and safely. Your contribution will directly support the delivery of safe, nutritious meals in a fast-paced and caring environment.

You will have regular contact with colleagues across the Trust and will be expected to uphold professional standards, food hygiene regulations and the Trust's values at all times.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Support an efficient procurement, receipt and distribution process for all catering goods in line with current hygiene legislation and HACCP procedures
Ensure safe and secure storage of food across all catering areas
Maintain compliance with NHS Food Standards and food safety regulations
Carry out routine stock checks and maintain accurate records
Monitor storage areas to ensure security and hygiene standards are consistently met
Support the management of dietary and allergen requirements
Deliver a high standard of customer service to patients, families and colleagues
Contribute to continuous improvement within procurement and stock handling processes

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Works well both independently and as part of a team
Is organised, proactive and detail-focused
Communicates confidently with a wide range of people
Takes pride in maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness
Is committed to providing excellent customer care

Catering experience and a Food Safety certificate are desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

As part of the recruitment process, you will complete a Maths and English assessment. A pass is required to progress to interview.

Foundation in Food Hygiene.
Level 2 Food Safety Certificate
Previous catering experience

Experience of working within a food store environment.
Hygiene COSSH procedures
Experience of working in a service led and customer focused environment.

Desirable criteria

Experience with both the commercial food service sector and/or an NHS catering operation
Infection prevention and control
Experience of stock-taking procedures.
Good IT skills (working with Excel and Word).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Attention to detail and ability to multitask.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria

Good knowledge of Food safety/Kitchen hygiene.
Good command of spoken and written English.
Effective standards of literacy.
Good timekeeping.
Organised and methodical.
Ability to work efficiently with good time management skills.
