Project Editor - Adult Publishing (12 Months FTC)

Overview
Simon & Schuster UK’s Adult Division is looking for a talented and precise Project Editor to work on the literary Scribner and Summit lists. The Project Editor will help the team publish the most exciting and distinctive talent in literary fiction and non-fiction and champion our books and authors with clear vision and creativity, ensuring they are a success critically and commercially.
Responsibilities
* Take a complete manuscript through all stages of the editing process, coordinating with authors, agents, freelancers, production and design to ensure projects are delivered within deadlines and budgets.
* Review copyedits and liaise with authors to resolve queries, manage proofs and corrections, ensuring accuracy across all text and jackets.
* Oversee freelancers, manage budgets, compile and clear illustrated material where required, manage metadata and internal systems, attend production meetings.
* Read submissions and provide feedback to acquiring editors across the two imprints.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be able to work in a busy editorial team, with the confidence and credibility to sign books off to press. The candidate can work independently and take responsibility for the accuracy of the finished book, has a meticulous eye for detail, and has experience of copyediting or line editing and proofreading. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience working closely with authors, agents, freelancers and internal stakeholders, and an awareness of publishing systems and timelines are required. An interest in literary fiction and non-fiction and awareness of the market would be desirable.
