Job Overview
TUV Rheinland UK is seeking an experienced metallurgist (permanent role) to join its expanding Asset Integrity Management team based in Derby, UK. The successful candidate will lead and deliver metallurgical solutions for clients, primarily in the Conventional Power and Clean Energy sectors, including CCGT, Biomass, and Energy from Waste plants.
Key Requirements
* Experience in ferrous metallurgy, failure analysis, and root cause investigation.
* Knowledge of high-temperature degradation mechanisms, including creep and corrosion in biomass/energy-from-waste boilers.
* Power plant background is highly desirable; experience in damage/degradation mechanisms and life assessment in oil & gas or petro-chem industries may be considered.
* Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
Responsibilities
* Leading metallurgical failure examinations, including laboratory work and formal reporting.
* Conducting site visits for investigations and inspections.
* Scheduling and prioritizing failure investigations.
* Mentoring less experienced failure investigators.
* Producing technical reports and project deliverables on time and within budget.
* Creating proposals, tender documents, and developing new business.
* Building relationships with clients.
* Managing large, project-based investigations.
* Staying updated on standards, legislation, and best practices.
* Occasional travel within the UK and abroad may be required.
Minimum Requirements
* A degree in metallurgy, materials science, materials engineering, or a related discipline.
* At least 5 years of industrial failure analysis experience related to the power industry; experience in petro-chem or oil & gas sectors is also relevant.
