It is a fixed‑term contract, with a review at the end of the period and an opportunity to test the working arrangements. It can be a 12‑month arrangement if you want it.</p><p>You’ll be joining as a Medical Technical Officer 1 in the Preimplantation Genetic Testing of Monogenic disorders (PGT‑M) team at Guy’s Hospital, which provides testing of single gene disorders in embryos. The laboratory is part of Synnovis Genetics, the hub laboratory of the South East GLH and the only hub in England that offers testing of embryos.</p><p>Practical experience in a range of laboratory techniques and previous experience in a diagnostic laboratory are essential. You will work as part of a technical team under the line management of a Medical Technical Officer 3 and will be expected to collaborate with clinical scientists and technicians from across the Genetics department. The job requires maintaining professional competency and dexterity in precision‑based tasks and maintaining the concentration required to maintain quality service.</p><h3>Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Testing samples using molecular biological techniques such as PCR</li><li>Checking the quality of extracted DNA</li><li>To file and retrieve samples</li><li>Undertake routine sample preparation with accuracy and precision</li><li>Preparation of reagents and solutions</li><li>Data entry onto laboratory computer system</li><li>Adherence to the laboratory standard operating procedures</li><li>Strict adherence to the laboratory and Departmental Health & Safety regulations and Codes of Practice</li></ul><p>You will have a suite of learning opportunities available through the ACCE Competency framework and will develop a network and knowledge built on a solid foundation.</p><p>The Centre for Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) at Guy’s Hospital is an integrated service provided alongside the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and the Assisted Conception Unit. The PGT service has been offered at Guy’s since 1997 and is the largest centre in the UK and one of the most successful in Europe. The lab currently tests for more than 300 genetic diseases. The Department is made up of more than 120 staff and has close links to clinical services throughout Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and St George’s Hospital Foundation Trust. With partners, the GLH for the South London region provides a comprehensive genomics service for a population of 8 million, including specialist germline and cancer tests and a class‑leading whole exome sequencing service.</p><p>The Genetics laboratories work collaboratively with other pathology disciplines and research groups such as the GSTfT Biomedical Research Centre and Genomics Innovation Unit.</p></div>
