Overview
Are you interested in a role with flexible working hours that allows you to meet new people from diverse communities and have a positive impact on your local community?
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK’s largest producer of official statistics, covering key economic, social and demographic topics, including measures of the UK economy, population size and characteristics, price inflation, employment, earnings, crime and migration. This is an exciting opportunity to join a modern, innovative and inclusive team that sits at the heart of public service delivery.
Role and Responsibilities
This is a great opportunity to join our team as a Field Interviewer, working for the Office for National Statistics via AMS. As a Field Interviewer carrying out official surveys, you will help to inform Government about the state of the nation.
The role will start with 5 weeks of comprehensive training to ensure your success. The Field Interviewer role will be a mix of visiting sampled addresses to encourage survey participation and interviewing respondents in their homes. This role is not office-based. You are required to work within a 40‑mile radius (approx.) of an allocated location. Your work will be allocated to enable travel and completion of tasks within your contracted hours in this area; please consider how your home location compares to your chosen location preference.
The role offers flexible working hours, broadly equivalent to 22 hours per week. Interviews will need to be conducted between 09:00 and 20:00, with potential for admin and travel time outside of these hours. Interviewers will work across mornings, afternoons and evenings and are contracted to work Monday to Saturday.
What we are looking for
We are looking for individuals who have a friendly, outgoing personality and the confidence to approach and converse with a wide range of people. You will also be responsible for planning, organising and managing your own workload. Full training and support will be provided.
Requirements
* Be able to transport and carry equipment such as a laptop and survey materials, and occasionally walk between addresses and navigate stairs in the field.
* Live within a 10 mile radius of the location and be able to travel to addresses within a 40 mile radius from the advertised location.
* Interviews conducted between 09:00–20:00, with hours split across mornings, afternoons and evenings, and flexibility to work on Saturdays if required.
* Experience using a laptop and a smartphone.
* Self-disciplined, self-motivated and able to work without supervision.
* Excellent verbal communication skills and enjoyment of meeting and talking to people.
