Democratic Services Officer
Full Time (37 hours per week) – Eastleigh, Hampshire – Permanent – Salary £34,857 (Band 5).
About the role
An exciting opportunity to support the democratic process and effective decision making by assisting elected Councillors with all aspects of their roles.
Responsibilities
* Minute taking and preparation of papers for committee meetings.
* Organising meetings and committee timetables.
* Understanding and interpreting the Constitution and providing advice and guidance to chairs of committees where appropriate.
* Ensuring all democratic activity is coordinated and delivered in accordance with relevant legislation and the Council’s Constitution.
* Managing last‑minute revisions to agendas and reports calmly and efficiently.
* Supporting Councillors’ induction and development, including the Member Development and Training Programme.
* Providing regular support to evening committees and working outside normal office hours.
Qualifications
* Experience in democratic services with a good working knowledge of committee processes and official meetings.
* Working knowledge of relevant legislation.
* Excellent organisational skills with keen attention to detail.
* Strong communication skills, self‑starter, and motivated to deliver high quality work.
* Calm under pressure and able to manage last‑minute changes.
* Comfortable and confident in providing advice and guidance to elected Members and Senior Officers.
* Adaptable to changing priorities with a flexible and positive approach.
* A full UK driving licence and access to reliable transport for evening meetings.
* Experience or good understanding of local government is welcomed but not essential.
