Overview
Secondary English Teacher (with Teach & Learn Package) – Brunei. CfBT Education Services / Education Development Trust invites applications from qualified secondary English teachers to begin work in government schools in Brunei Darussalam during 2025/2026, as part of an ESL/EAL project. This is a 9-16 month assignment with a comprehensive Teach & Learn package and competitive salary and benefits.
Responsibilities
* Teach English to secondary students in Brunei government schools.
* Participate in and lead professional learning opportunities; collaborate on national initiatives; develop cross-cultural professional relationships.
* Contribute to maintaining high standards of teaching and contribute to the ESL/EAL program within the context of a bilingual education policy.
Qualifications
* Hold a degree from a university in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, USA, or an EU country.
* Hold Qualified Teacher Status/teacher accreditation (PGCE, BEd, etc.). A TEFL certificate with a degree may be acceptable if other criteria are met.
* Minimum of 3 years relevant classroom teaching experience post qualification, with at least 1 year of English/ESL experience.
* Be able and willing to drive; a Bruneian driving licence requires a driving test (manual or automatic).
Teach & Learn Package & Benefits
* Generous Learning and Development grant up to 1/12th of salary to fund ESL/EAL courses and training (e.g., Cambridge CELTA/DELTA, TEFL certificate or diploma, or components of a Masters in TESOL) on successful probation completion.
* Free Instructional Coaching training by Tom Sherrington (UK).
* Free membership or International Affiliate status of the Chartered College of Teaching (UK).
* Free training course on Cambridge IGCSE ESL and Cambridge O Levels syllabi and exams.
* Competitive tax-free annual salary up to BND$60,500 (up to about £35k) and a Contract Completion Bonus of 1/12th of salary earned. End-of-contract bonuses may differ if grant funding is unused.
