Dispensary and Ward Based Pharmacy Technician
The closing date is 17 May 2026
The Horton Hospital Pharmacy department is looking for a Registered Pharmacy Technician to join them. This is an exciting opportunity for those who wish to gain hospital experience, working both in the dispensary and on wards. The post holder will support our dispensary and clinical services, ensuring patients receive the best care possible. Applicants must hold an NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy services or an equivalent recognised qualification and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Technicians without both ACT and MMT will be appointed at band 4 and receive an uplift to band 5 upon completion of both the stand‑alone ACT and MMT accreditations.
Main duties of the job
The Pharmacy Technician role is varied and requires flexibility. The successful applicant will assist in the smooth running of the dispensary, providing coordination support to the dispensary team with or without the Senior Technician. Responsibilities include training and induction of new team members, pharmacy apprentices, trainee technicians, and pharmacists.
Key duties include labelling, dispensing, checking, monitoring workload, and supporting our TTO KPI tracking screen. Ward‑based tasks involve assessing patients' own drugs, medicines reconciliation, and one‑stop ordering. Excellent customer service skills are essential as the role requires answering the phone, responding to queries from service users, and covering both staff and out‑patient reception. Store responsibilities include supporting ward and fluid top‑up services, receiving deliveries, and managing stock.
We are supported by evolving technology, including electronic prescribing and a new prescription tracking system, to aid labelling and dispensing of medications.
