About the Role In this role, you will play a vital part in shaping the future of transport across Bath and North East Somerset. You will contribute to the development of innovative strategies, reports, plans and policies that promote safe, convenient and efficient transport systems, while enhancing quality of life and protecting the character of local communities and the environment. Working across a diverse landscape, from the historic centre of Bath to the scenic rural areas of North East Somerset, you will help deliver transport solutions that support the council s ambitions and statutory responsibilities. You ll support senior engineers and policy officers across the Council to explore how people move around the region, contributing to plans that reduce carbon emissions, improve connectivity, and enable sustainable forms of transport. You ll help gather and analyse data, prepare reports, and engage with stakeholders to ensure our strategies are inclusive, evidence-based, and forward-thinking. The role offers a chance to build your skills while making a real difference to the way people live, work, and travel in the area. This is a role offers training, and opportunities to gain professional qualifications in Transport Planning. You ll be part of a collaborative team, with access to regular one to one support and development opportunities. About You You hold a vocational qualification or have equivalent experience to at least Level 4 (such as an HNC or HBTEC) in a relevant subject. Membership of a relevant professional institution is desirable, and practical experience in transport or engineering services is highly valued. You ll bring: A strong interest or background in transport, engineering, or planning. Experience working with service users and stakeholders, with clear and concise communication skillsboth written and verbal. Confidence in handling data, writing reports, and supporting policy development. Familiarity with technical standards, safe working practices, and relevant legislation. The ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage your own workload, and contribute to team objectives. A proactive approach to problem-solving, planning, and service delivery, with a focus on outcomes and continuous improvement.
