Main duties of the job
As a valued member of our kitchen team, your key responsibilities will include:
* Assisting with the day-to-day running of the hospital kitchen, including food preparation and presentation.
* Supporting the Head Chef in delivering creative and nutritious menus that meet a range of dietary requirements.
* Ensuring food safety and hygiene regulations are strictly followed across all catering activities.
* Helping manage stock levels and maintaining a clean, well-organised kitchen.
* Working with the team to minimise waste, optimise portion control, and ensure cost-effective service delivery.
* Supporting with staff supervision and stepping into leadership responsibilities when the Head Chef is absent.
* Contributing to audits, health and safety compliance, and infection prevention procedures in the catering environment.

* NVQ Level 2 in a catering discipline or City & Guilds 204/205/206
* Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
* Experience preparing meals in a commercial or institutional kitchen
* Understanding of stock management, special dietary needs, and kitchen hygiene standards
* The ability to prioritise workload, use initiative, and remain calm under pressure
* A positive, flexible attitude and excellent team-working skills
* Experience in a healthcare or similar setting desirable
* Supervisory experience and/or an advanced food hygiene certificate - desirable
