A sought after opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist Band 6 to work in a static role in Older Person’s care at Cambridge University Hospital.

We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic team player to step into this highly valued position.

A competent clinician with a commitment to patient centred care who has an interest and experience of working with older people, understanding the complexities of frailty and skills in mental health. An aptitude to teach and supervise junior staff and students is also essential.

With good leadership capabilities, you will support your team lead to maintain high standards of clinical performance in a fast paced environment and take forward current service development projects as the service evolves. You will be in a key position to advance in staff training and service development, thus advancing your skills.

If you are experienced at working in acute care with complex patients, knowledgeable about community services, committed to improving patient care and patient flow, skilled in staff development and practice evidence based therapy then this is the job for you.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in a vibrant Occupational Therapy department, with an opportunity to work in the specialist areas of Oncology, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Department of Medicine for the Elderly, Medical, Neurosciences, Critical Care, Stroke and Rehab, Major Trauma and Rheumatology and Pain.

You will be required to effectively and creatively carry a full case load without direct supervision whilst developing supervisory and project / service delivery skills.

Working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, Division and Occupational Therapy department.

This post will enable occupational therapists to extend their clinical expertise in the field of Department of Medicine for the Elderly whilst developing supervision, training and project skills. The post holder will provide occupational therapy to patients working without direct supervision. They will ensure a safe, efficient and effective delivery of occupational therapy and work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary & multi agency teams. They will hold a caseload across wards and input data on a daily basis to assist in monitoring the service. The post holder will work with senior staff on delegated projects for service development and deputise for the Team Lead on occasions. Within the wider Occupational Therapy Department, there will be opportunities to shape it's future by being involved in working groups and supporting the Senior Leadership team in developing OT in the hospital.

Person specification


Qualifications

* Occupational Therapist registered with Health & Care Professions Council.
* Degree of Diploma of Occupational Therapy
* Willing to undertake fieldwork educators training.
* Member of C.O.T.
* Member of Specialist Section/Special Interest Group


Experience

* Experience in this specialist field of practice
* Teaching experience
* Varied clinical experience
* Experience of working in either NHS or social care
* Evidence of student supervision
* Experience of supervision of Occupational Therapy Assistants and students
* Supervision of band 5 OTs
* Experience of giving presentations
* Experience of working in an acute care hospital


Knowledge

* To be competent in all stages of the OT process
* Working knowledge of a range of clinical conditions
* Flexible
* Self-motivated
* Positively promotes occupational therapy
* Experience of audit/EBP/research process
* Knowledge of government documents and legislation relating to healthcare, social care, housing and education
