This an exciting opportunity to join Runnymede Borough Council as we continue our positive work to deliver on our nature conservation aspirations. As the Biodiversity Officer, you will:

* Support the management of strategic Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) sites and oversee and deliver improvements to encourage recreational visitors.
* Identify and realise opportunities for biodiversity enhancements across our parks, open spaces and buildings.
* Work closely with partners, stakeholders and local community groups to provide ecological expertise and guidance and ensure nature is fully considered in decision making.
* Develop plans, strategies and policies to conserve and enhance nature in Runnymede.
* Appoint and supervise contractors delivering environmental projects to create, maintain and enhance habitats.
* Attend meetings of community groups, experts and Council meetings to promote the work of the Council and raise awareness of biodiversity issues in Runnymede and beyond.

You will be responsible for ensuring the Council meets its obligations to deliver SANG to a high standard. You will develop and promote biodiversity‑focused initiatives across the whole of the Council, and explore opportunities to enhance our parks and open spaces for nature. As a Biodiversity Officer, you will work with local community groups and volunteers to deliver practical, on‑the‑ground habitat enhancements. You will also provide advice and expertise in the development and delivery of nature conservation strategies and plans.

About You

We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable individual to join our team who can provide support for strategic site management, develop biodiversity enhancement initiatives and engage our community with the natural world. We are looking for exceptional candidates with a range of skills including:

* The ability to represent the Council in meetings with residents, stakeholders and partnerships
* Experience of delivering ecological enhancements in parallel with the needs of people
* Knowledge of the habitats found in Runnymede and the ability to direct contracted works to maintain and enhance them
* A degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject, or with significant practical experience
* A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle
* A demonstrated ability to write evidence‑based management plans, strategies and policies
* Good field ecology skills, with knowledge of the priority species and habitats found in Surrey
* The ability to inspire people from all parts of our community to care for nature
