About The Role
Falmouth Exeter Plus manages and delivers services at Falmouth, Penryn and Truro Campuses on behalf of Falmouth University and the University of Exeter. We are seeking Specialist ASC Mentors to support the academic progress of students at both Falmouth University and University of Exeter (Cornwall campuses).
This role involves providing mentoring to students with various and sometimes complex conditions including autism (ASC) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). As part of this role, you will build professional working relationships with a caseload of students combining a person-centred approach with an understanding of the student's condition, to support them with their academic progress.
An important additional aspect of the work is efficient use of CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems to communicate, book appointments and record sessions with students. This role is campus-based, but you may be required to work with students online when this is their preference.
About You
As well as experience in working professionally with adults or young people in a supportive role, you meet the requirements stipulated in the "DfE Mandatory Criteria" for Specialist ASC Mentors (document available to download from Mandatory Qualifications (see pp 9 to 12).
One possible route is to hold an undergraduate degree and have completed comprehensive training in adult autism (for example The Optimum - Autism and ADHD in Higher Education: Recognising and addressing the barriers through Non-Medical Helper (NMH) Mentoring and Study Skills Strategies)
Please make it clear in your application whether you already hold the appropriate qualifications or are currently working towards them.
We are particularly interested in hearing from ASC Mentors who have worked in a university setting.
You will be a confident and competent IT user with experience of using CRMs and applications such as Microsoft Office. You will also have a good knowledge of using and incorporating Assistive Technology (AT) within the mentoring session.
Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to successfully undertake an Enhanced with Regulated Activity DBS check.For further details on the skills/experience required for this role, please see the full job description above.
