We have a part time, fixed term vacancy until March 2027 for an individual to join the Speech and Language Therapy team to work in Early Supportive Discharge (ESD) within stroke services. This service also delivers the Neurological Rehabilitation Online (NROL) programme. This post would be based at Clatterbridge Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Speech & Language Therapist, or candidates undergoing relevant Speech and Language Therapy qualifications seeking registration with the HCPC to join the team at Wirral University Teaching Hospital. The wider Speech and Language Therapy Service is a well-established team, providing services to adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties across a variety of clinical areas:
* Clatterbridge Rehabilitation Centre (Stroke rehabilitation and Neuro Rehabilitation Network Beds)
* Voice Restoration and ENT out-patient services
All staff are supported through regular clinical team meetings, personal development planning, CPD, and clinical supervision. WUTH has a preceptorship programme for all new graduates. The post would be based with the SLT Team at Clatterbridge, where other ESD service providers (Physio and OT) are. The SLT Clinical Lead for ESD and SLT Team Lead for stroke services are also based at Clatterbridge Hospital.
Main duties of the job
Under the supervision of a Senior Speech and Language Therapist the post holder will:
* As a qualified clinician, assess, plan and deliver individualised programme of intervention evaluating the effectiveness for patients presenting with a range of conditions. Giving advice to patients and their carers when required.
* Prioritise and plan own patient caseload according to needs of the patient and resources available. Direct supervision and support from a Senior Speech and Language Therapist is regularly provided and clinical work is routinely evaluated.
* Contribute to the discussions on service and policy development and implement in the workplace as directed.
* Be responsible for the effective manual and computer recording of patient interventions accurately and appropriately, following Service/ Trust Policy.
* Be responsible for the collection/input of clinical information and statistics for patients.
* Be responsible for producing timely, accurate and informative clinical reports for other agencies as required.
* Identify the current and potential future needs of the patient and be responsible for initiating appropriate referrals to a variety of internal and external agencies.
* Undertake evidence based audit reporting findings to the team.
* Responsible for own competency to practice through CPD maintaining a professional portfolio, including reflective practice and participating in the supervision and appraisal process

Person Specification
Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
* Degree in Speech & Language Therapy or a qualification of an equivalent level recognised by Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* HCPC Registration
* Appropriate level of Speech and Language therapy experience at under/ post graduate level, in a range of relevant specialities.
* Manage own caseload with direction/ support
* Experience of a variety of assessment techniques suitable for adults
* Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
* Experience in evidence based practice or audit.
Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge of current trends in the management of communication and / or swallowing
* IT literate

* Membership of an appropriate clinical excellence network
