THE ROLE AND OPPORTUNITY

As an Associate in the Financial Planning & Analysis team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Finance function at John Laing. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders, providing insightful financial analysis and supporting strategic decision-making. You will be responsible for preparing and analysing financial reports, developing financial models, and supporting the continuous improvement of our financial processes. This role is perfect for a proactive individual with strong analytical skills, financial acumen and a passion for supporting strategic decision-making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Financial Analysis:
Conduct detailed financial analysis and performance monitoring, including variance analysis and KPI tracking.
* Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in the preparation and coordination of budgets, forecasts, and long-term business plans.
* Management Reporting:
Prepare and present monthly management reports, including financial performance packs for senior leadership.
* Scenario Analysis:
Develop and maintain financial models for scenario analysis and strategic planning.
* Cash Analysis:
Support the regular review of cash positions, forecasted movements and treasury requirements.
* Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the implementation of best practices in financial reporting and analysis.
* Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with various departments to gather financial data and insights, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
* Ad Hoc Analysis:
Provide ad hoc financial analysis and support for special projects as required.
* Data Integrity:
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data by maintaining robust controls and processes.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

Required:

* ACA / CIMA / ACCA (or equivalent) newly qualified accountant, with commercial and accounting experience.
* Advanced financial modelling skills, including proficiency in Excel (Pivots, formulas, formatting, data validation) and PowerPoint.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with teams inside and outside of Finance.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.

Preferred:

* Proficiency in financial software and tools for dashboards and reporting – (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)
* Database skills – understanding of data structures and extracting and manipulating data from various data sources.
* Experience within investment management or financial services, with an understanding of valuations, financing instruments and investments in real assets.
* Experience in or understanding of financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
* Active interest in the infrastructure sector.
