We have a vacancy for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist with a proven interest in making a difference for children and young people.

Children's Therapies is a large, well established integrated Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech & Language Therapy Team. Therapists work in a variety of community settings and support children with physical disabilities or coordination difficulties.

As a valued member of this team you will be responsible for delivering child centred occupational therapy support to facilitate participation in activities and development of skills & independence. You will have access to senior support, regular supervision and opportunity to work closely with other professions to meet the needs of children referred to the team.

This is a community based post and you will need a current UK driving licence and access to a vehicle to meet the travel requirements of this post.


Main duties of the job

To deliver occupational focused assessments and 1:1 or group interventions to children and young people with physical disabilities / movement problems in a range of community settings.

To provide advice and training to school staff / family members to help with the confident implementation of therapy recommendations.

To assess for specialist seating / equipment to support therapy goals.

To complete written reports to support the EHCP process.


Job responsibilities

Clinical

The post-holder will assess, treat & evaluate occupational performance within the areas of self care, productivity (school work) and play & leisure to maximise appropriate health, education and social benefits. This will include the management of children, young people and their families for whom English is not the first spoken language.

The post-holder provides both direct and indirect intervention, advice and support; working within a multi-agency model in order to ensure that the holistic needs of children and young people are met. Completion of departmental clinical outcome measures is integral to client management.

The post-holder liaises both orally and in writing with any significant others involved in the management of the children and young people, within and outside the NHS, to ensure the clients needs are met effectively and efficiently.

The post holder will be expected to autonomously manage his/her own caseload, including clinical administration and appointments.

The post-holder has responsibility for maintaining an accurate and contemporaneous (within 24 hours) electronic patient record, in order to ensure compliance with departmental, professional and legal requirements.

Service Development

The post-holder is aware of current local and national priorities for children and young people.

The post-holder contributes to, and participates in the Childrens Therapy service business plan.

The post holder will take an active part in departmental working parties/small projects.

Training

The post-holder is aware of, and begins to participate in, the provision of training in order to advise, educate and empower multi-disciplinary groups and families/carers to both prevent and remediate occupational performance difficulties.

Development (CPD) opportunities from a variety of sources, including departmental rotation programme, in order to keep his/her professional knowledge up-to-date.

Once the post-holder has completed his/her competencies he/she will be expected to contribute to the education of student Occupational Therapists.


Qualifications

* Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registration
* Member of BAOT
* Member of CYPF network


Experience

* Evidence of undergraduate/postgraduate experience working with children in a professional or voluntary capacity
* Evidence of postgraduate experience working with children with additional needs in a professional capacity
