Offer description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Social Worker to join our newly launching Infected Blood Psychological Service based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

This service has been funded following the Infected Blood Inquiry report's recommendation of providing a bespoke psychological support service in England for those infected and affected by the contaminated blood products. The post holder will have the exceptional opportunity to support its implementation by working as part of the regional Midlands service and by collaborating with other providers across England.

The Social Worker Navigator role is an exciting new role where the successful applicant will be responsible for assessing the psychosocial needs of the people accessing the service and providing support and appropriate signposting to meet their needs.

You will be a valued colleague in our Clinical Health Psychology Service at Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. There are a number of other Social Worker Navigator roles across England, so there will be networking support and the exciting opportunity to collaborate with colleagues who will be simultaneously engaging with developments in these areas elsewhere

You will be a qualified social worker, registered with Social Work England. You will use your social worker skills to offer psychosocial assessments, interventions and signposting to the people using the service. You will also lead on the outreach element of the service, establishing pathways both into the service and out of the service, by making links with local, regional and national organisations who are able to provide necessary support to people accessing the service.

As the only social worker within our Clinical Health Psychology service, your social work skills will be valued within our team. You will have close links with the social worker within UHB’s Haemophilia department as well as the network of Social Worker Navigators within the Infected Blood Psychological Services across England.

You will need to be able to demonstrate a highly developed understanding of the challenges experienced by those infected and affected by contaminated blood products. You will ideally have experience in working with patients with long-term physical health conditions. You will be working closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide high quality care, and you will need skills in consultation and teaching as part of our multidisciplinary teamwork.

There is a requirement for face to face and remote working within this role.
