Macmillan Melanoma Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic nurse to join our team of Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists within the Melanoma Skin cancer pathway.

To provide a service within St George's Hospital to patients with Melanoma cancer. The Clinical Nurse Specialist works as part of the multi-professional team, ensuring that this group of patients receives the highest standard of care and support from time of diagnosis and throughout the cancer pathway. The post holder will represent the Trust and the Lead Cancer Nurse at all meetings related to the cancer service framework and in particular those pertaining to Melanoma cancer.


Main duties of the job

As a pivotal member of the team you will be passionate about the delivery of a high quality, safe and effective care to St George's cohort of Melanoma Cancer patients. You will meet patients post diagnosis and act as a keyworker for them throughout their entire cancer pathway. This includes patients across the surgical and medical oncology treatment paradigms.

Other services treat patients from all over the country, such as family HIV care and bone marrow transplantation for non-cancer diseases. The trust also provides a nationwide state-of-the-art endoscopy training centre.

Person Specification


Skills

* Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills
* Ability to work autonomously
* Ability to manage complex and difficult emotional situations


Experience

* 2 years band 6/7 experience in oncology, plastics, melanoma / skin cancer
* Teaching experience
* Experience working as a Senior Nurse at MDT level
* Nurse-led clinic experience
* Previous experience as a CNS


Qualifications

* Current NMC Registration
* Oncology module or other relevant qualification
* Masters Degree
* Physical Assessment Module
* Psychology Level 2 training
* Advance Communication course


Research

* Knowledge of current clinical and nursing research related to melanoma / skin cancer
* Ability to critically analyse data
* Ability to carry out an audit
* Research Course and/or experience
* Published work (articles/posters/conference presentation)


Knowledge

* An understanding of audit, research and evidence based practice
* Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues


Management and Leadership

* Evidence of clinical leadership qualities
* Evidence of presentation skills
* Evidence of excellent documentation/written skills
* Ability to work autonomously or as part of a multi-professional team
* Experience of change management
* Knowledge of statistics and report writing
