Key responsibilities & duties
* Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures
* Preparing and sterilising instruments and equipment following HTM guidance and protocols
* Helping patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
* Set-up and prepare the surgery for the type of patient and treatment planned
* Clean and sterilise all equipment and working surfaces to the required standards at the end of each session
* Ensure safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste
* Maintain the radiograph processing unit
* Escort patients from the waiting room to the surgery, confirming the medical history and bringing any changes to the attention of the dentist
* Provide clinical assistance under the supervision of the dentist
* Continually evaluate the needs of patients and specialist and deal with them promptly and efficiently
* Assist in the completion of patient records
* Monitor and maintain stocks as necessary and liaise with the head nurse regarding any shortages of materials
* Ensure that all necessary laboratory work is returned and ready for each session
* Follow all practice policies and procedures and patient confidentiality
* Establish and maintain productive working relationships with the dental team
* Comply with all GDC and CQC requirements
