About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Environmental Consultant to join our Consulting Division in Exeter. The role involves cradle‑to‑grave project management for environmental projects, from fieldwork data collection through to reporting and invoicing. You will manage budgets, ensure timely delivery in line with client SLAs, and work within a hybrid arrangement with a minimum of two days per week in the Exeter office.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide end‑to‑end project management for environmental claims projects from inception to completion.
* Manage project budgeting and invoicing, ensuring deadlines and targets are met in line with client service level agreements.
* Gather robust fieldwork data and maintain quality standards.
* Oversee subcontractors and remediation contractors throughout project delivery.
* Monitor project progress and ensure all milestones and deliverables are achieved.

Technical Delivery

* Conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
* Complete factual and interpretative Preliminary Risk Assessments (desk‑based and intrusive).
* Write technically sound and commercially focused proposals, scopes, and reports.
* Undertake environmental risk assessments in accordance with current legislation and best practice.
* Ensure all technical work meets required standards and client expectations.

Client and Stakeholder Relations

* Maintain project communication on technical and commercial levels with a diverse range of clients, regulators, and site owners.
* Build and develop strong client relationships through professional and responsive service.
* Interact effectively with clients and the public, representing the company professionally.
* Provide clear explanations of technical matters to non‑technical stakeholders.

Health, Safety and Compliance

* Observe all health, safety and environmental rules and procedures.
* Ensure all projects are fully compliant with current and emerging environmental legislation.
* Maintain accurate and complete project documentation and records.
* Follow company procedures and industry best practices at all times.

Team Development

* Mentor and support junior team members in their professional development.
* Assist in the training of less experienced consultants.
* Share knowledge and expertise to strengthen the wider team capability.

Essential Requirements

* Minimum 5 years of proven experience as an Environmental Consultant.
* Extensive experience in Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment.
* Demonstrated experience completing factual and interpretative Preliminary Risk Assessments (desk‑based and intrusive).
* Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or natural science related discipline (e.g., Geology, Environmental Science, Physical Geography).
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
* Strong understanding of current and emerging environmental legislation.
* Excellent organisational, time‑management, analytical and numerical skills with strong attention to detail.
* Excellent communication and written skills, with the confidence to interact effectively with clients and the public.
* Commercial awareness in both project costings and risk management.
* Self‑starting ability with problem‑solving skills and sound judgement.

Desirable

* Experience in insurance‑related environmental work.
* Background in contaminated land assessment and remediation.
* Professional membership (e.g., CEnv, CSci) or working towards chartership.
* Experience mentoring or training junior staff members.

What We're Looking For

We seek a technically proficient and commercially aware Environmental Consultant who can manage complex projects independently while working collaboratively with our wider team. The successful candidate will have a strong track record in environmental site assessment, excellent client relationship skills, and the ability to deliver high‑quality technical work within commercial constraints.

* Holiday entitlement starting at 20 days, increasing with service up to 25 days plus bank holidays.
* Company pension scheme.
