About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Income Officer to join the Housing Services team on a 6-month maternity cover (job share) basis. The role sits within the organisational structure of Environment & Housing > Housing Services > Housing and plays a key part in supporting tenants, maximising rental income, and ensuring financial sustainability of housing services.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues, tenants, and external partners to manage rent accounts effectively, support residents in sustaining their tenancies, and take appropriate action where arrears occur.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of rent accounts, ensuring timely collection of income.
* Monitor arrears, agree repayment arrangements, and take proportionate enforcement action when required.
* Provide advice and support to tenants on welfare benefits, budgeting, and debt management to help sustain tenancies.
* Work closely with Housing Officers, Support Workers, and external agencies to support vulnerable tenants.
* Prepare and present cases for legal action where necessary, including attendance at court.
* Maintain accurate records, reports, and systems in line with organisational policies and procedures.
* Contribute to income recovery targets and performance standards across Housing Services.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Essential Skills & Experience
* Previous experience working in income management, housing, or debt recovery.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations empathetically.
* Good knowledge of housing legislation, welfare benefits, and tenancy management.
* Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage a busy caseload.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and housing management systems.
Desirable
* Experience working within a social housing provider or local authority setting.
* Knowledge of legal processes relating to rent arrears and possession proceedings.
Pre-Employment Requirements
* Proof of Right to Work in the UK.
* Satisfactory employment references.
