Calibre Search is working alongside a professional Civil and Structural Consultancy providing design services across the UK. With offices across the Midlands, operating since 1975, they have been delivering high-quality detailed technical design on projects nationwide. Their client base includes architects, developers, fabricators, and building owners.
The projects are diverse and challenging, including bespoke new build structures, refurbishment, and heritage works. They value re-use and sustainable engineering design, specializing in efficient and sustainable new-build projects. Their portfolio includes residential developments, tree houses, badger sets, eco houses, river alterations, and remodeled museums, showcasing their design versatility.
The ideal candidate will possess a detailed knowledge of structural design and detailing, using relevant UK and European codes of practice. Responsibilities include producing preliminary design solutions, reviewing designs with clients, creating detailed designs, calculations, specifications, and conducting technical reviews.
Attendance at design, project progress, and client meetings is expected, along with liaising with contractors, clients, third-party organizations, and stakeholders to address technical queries. You will produce sketches, drawings, and structural appraisal reports, with knowledge of BREEAM, sustainability objectives, and embodied carbon.
Design capabilities should cover all construction forms, including steelwork, reinforced/precast concrete, masonry, and timber. You will also carry out structural appraisals of commercial, industrial, and residential structures.
To succeed, you should have experience with a variety of structural engineering projects, including complex and challenging designs from conception to completion. Candidates should be Chartered or near-chartered (MICE or MIStructE) with at least 4 years post-qualification experience in a UK consultancy environment.
