We are looking for an innovative midwife who is able to demonstrate a wide range of midwifery expertise and experience to work as part of our governance team as guideline and audit lead midwife.

Main duties of the job
* Clinical Governance, Research and Audit
* Monitor and maintain quality standards relating to guidelines.
* Maintain the guideline and audit database ensuring that there are systems in place to ensure timely review and completion.
* To ensure that there are robust systems in place to demonstrate compliance with national standards, guidance, and policy.
* Identify, collate, analyse, and interpret quantitative data as part of the quarterly monitoring of auditable standards.
* Provide regular reports as required for both internal and external governance reviews.
* Chair Women's Policy Group including preparing the agenda and necessary administrative support.
* Ensure that key recommendations from risk incidents are effectively implemented.
* Support in the investigation of incidents as required.
Education and Service Development
* The post holder will deliver education programmes for staff regarding guideline development and audit processes.
* Support staff training with regards to Governance updates.
* Contribute to the education and development of student midwives.
* Act as a role model always and promote a high standard of safe and effective care which is based upon best evidence.
* Ensure that they maintain their own knowledge and clinical skills by all appropriate means maintaining professional registration.
* Participate in the maternity quality improvement journey.

Job responsibilities
To support the divisional team and clinical teams within Womens Services in the development and review of guidelines and policies. The post holder will also oversee the womens audit programme leading especially upon midwifery audit working closely with the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Audit lead. They will also be responsible for other projects which may arise from time to time.
This post supports the quality and governance agenda within Maternity and is key to ensuring that nursing, midwifery, and medical practice is safe, evidence based and current, advising on changes nationally to practice and supporting the implementation of such guidance into practice. The post holder will be responsible for the oversight and monitoring of the standards through audit and presentation of key performance indicators including the monitoring and review of practice in line with local guidance following review/ implementation of a new guideline.
There would be the expectation to support the clinical areas as part of the escalation policy. Therefore, the requirement to maintain professional registration with the NMC is necessary for the post along with maintaining up to date with relevant mandatory and role specific training.
The post holder will work collaboratively with the Band 7 Risk and Incident Midwife providing cross cover during absence where required.
The post holder will participate in the maternity manager on call rota.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Midwife with NMC Registration
* Degree Level Education
* Masters, working towards Masters or equivalent experience / portfolio of evidence.
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
* Teaching or mentorship course completed.
Experience
* Practising midwife for a minimum of 5 years
* Experience in all midwifery settings
* Evidence of writing guidelines
* Participated in audit
* Experience of working to deadlines.
* Experience working within a governance setting and participating in incident management and investigation.
Skills
* Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal relationship skills.
* Excellent presentation skills.
* Knowledge and management of incident reporting systems e.g. Safeguard, Datix.
