Location: Buttershaw/ Hybrid Working (1 day a week in the office – Bradford)

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Water Resource Modeller & Hydrologist to join the Strategy & Regulation team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

As a Water Resources & Hydrology Specialist, you’ll play a key part in safeguarding our reservoirs, rivers, and groundwater sources. Your expertise will directly influence how we operate our water systems—ensuring we meet customer needs, protect the environment, and adapt to the challenges of climate change.

Where you fit in:

As our Water Resources & Hydrology Specialist, you will:

10. Manage water resource and hydrological datasets, ensuring high standards of data quality and integrity
11. Develop, run, and maintain water resources and hydrological models to support strategic planning, including maintaining model audit trails
12. Use models and spreadsheet-based tools to generate outputs that inform key business decisions and regulatory reports ( WRPR, Drought Prospect, WRMP, Drought Plan, WINEP, SRO schemes)
13. Review and author technical documents, including water resource status reports and modelling output
14. Prepare for and actively participate in internal and external meetings, presenting findings and insights
15. Lead and manage projects and external consultants as required
16. Provide support to the Water Resource Modelling Manager across various initiatives and tasks
17. Be willing to interact with other part of the business and technically support tasks beyond day-to-day obligations

What skills & qualifications you will need:

18. Postgraduate degree in Water Resources or a closely related subject
19. Experience using water resource modelling software ( PyWR)
20. Understanding of stochastic datasets and their use in assessing climate change impacts
21. Proficiency in geographical information systems (GIS)
22. Familiarity with rainfall-runoff models such as GR6J
23. Proven experience delivering technical projects in a commercially focused and regulated environment
24. Programming skills in Python (essential), Matlab (desirable), or R (desirable)
25. Strong analytical and numerical skills including proficientcy in MS Excel and Word
26. The ability to run complicated problems linked to water resources using water resource models.
27. Time management and the ability to balance workload based on variable priorities
