SHEQ Engineer

The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for an SHEQ Engineer. You can be based out of either the Adlington or Sunderland office with travel to sites as required.
The SHEQ Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety (SHEQ) management systems are effectively implemented, maintained, and continuously improved within the organisation. This role ensures compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and company policies while promoting a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and quality excellence.
You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.
Key Responsibilities
• Drive continuous improvement of SHEQ management systems and ensure compliance across the organisation.
• Lead incident reporting processes, investigations, root‑cause analysis, and follow‑up corrective actions.
• Monitor and report on operational KPIs, man hours, and SHEQ performance data for internal governance.
• Support annual ESG reporting and communicate SHEQ learnings to promote best practice.
• Conduct supplier and tender reviews, lead quality‑based inspections, and expedite suppliers when needed.
• Maintain accreditation requirements, oversee legislation updates, and ensure aligned internal practices.
• Lead and support audits, inspections, risk assessments, and manage non‑conformities to resolution.
• Collaborate with clients’ SHE teams on joint audits, site inspections, and project SHEQ schedules.
• Prepare and maintain documentation including CDM materials, ITPs, NCRs, CPPs, H&S files, and project audit schedules.
• Track and close out SHEQ issues, corrective actions, and preventive actions with project teams.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 and 45001, conducting environmental and safety assessments and supporting waste management requirements.
• Promote safe working practices through training, awareness activities, committee support, and incident reviews.
• Maintain training matrices, e‑learning compliance, and records required for audits and regulatory inspections.
• Support certification renewals, external audits, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Act as a key liaison between management, employees, suppliers, clients, and external authorities on all SHEQ matters.
Minimum Requirements:
• Experience in a SHEQ or similar engineering role
• HNC/HND qualified in an Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline.
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems.
• Understanding of engineering drawings and specifications.
• An understanding of Mechanical and Fabricated assemblies, welding & NDT standards and processes.
• Certification in Safety - NEBOSH or similar.
• Auditing experience.
• Excellent communication.
• Available to travel as required.
• Proficient in MS Office and familiarity with SHEQ reporting tools/software
• Completed the required company induction into this role.
