Offer description

Summary

We’re looking for a Facilities Manager to join one of our newly formed Lake District facilities teams, offering a fantastic opportunity to help shape how facilities services are delivered across some of the most special places we care for. This role includes responsibility for Wordsworth House and Garden in Cockermouth, a small collection of buildings in Whitehaven, and three ranger bases along with additional smaller buildings in Wasdale and Eskdale. We’re happy to discuss your preferred base location with the successful candidate, although regular travel between sites will be required.

Salary: £22,089.60 per annum pro rata (based on full-time equivalent salary of £27,612 per annum)

Contract Duration: Permanent

Working Pattern: You will work 30 hours per week, with no weekend working anticipated. The hours can be worked over four or five days, and your full working pattern will be agreed with you in advance.

Provisional Interview Date: Thursday 18th June

What it's like to work here

Our Facilities team looks after some of the most breathtaking landscapes and historic buildings in the Lake District and wider Cumbria. One day you might be coordinating works at Wordsworth’s Georgian townhouse - the poet’s birthplace - while another could take you to the dramatic coastal Fog Signal Station at St Bees, or deep into our Lakeland valleys including Borrowdale, Buttermere, Ennerdale, Wasdale, Eskdale and Duddon.

You’ll be part of a friendly, multidisciplinary team, working alongside Rangers, Business Support colleagues and Visitor Welcome staff. Facilities play a vital role in keeping our places safe, welcoming, and operational for both staff and visitors - so the work is varied, meaningful, and never dull.

What you'll be doing

As Facilities Manager, you’ll be responsible for your own defined patch, while working closely with three other Facilities Managers to share expertise, pool resources, and continually improve ways of working. Collaboration sits at the heart of the team, and you’ll be well supported to develop your skills while making a tangible difference on the ground.

You’ll play a key role in the day‑to‑day care and long‑term sustainability of our buildings, coordinating and delivering both planned preventative and reactive maintenance across your sites. You’ll lead on compliance, health and safety, and statutory requirements, working closely with contractors, colleagues, and volunteers to deliver maintenance and improvement projects. In doing so, you’ll balance the protection of the historic environment with improving climate resilience and sustainability, using facilities and asset management systems to manage information, plan works, and monitor performance effectively.

Who we're looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

1. experienced in managing facilities, or supervising, and looking to develop your career
2. keenly interested in looking after buildings and assets to a high standard
3. skilled in managing relations with contractors
4. focused on detail, especially to do with health and safety and compliance
5. knowledgeable of environmental and climate initiatives
6. able to manage large maintenance budgets and make sure projects run smoothly.
