Consultant General Anaesthesia

NHS Lanarkshire - University Hospital Monklands

University Hospital Monklands (UHM) is seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist to join its team of Consultants and multidisciplinary staff.

The Anaesthetics Department is part of the Surgical & Critical Care Directorate, offering services in a 7-theatre main operating suite and a 2-theatre day unit. It includes a 10-bed Level II/III ICU, admitting approximately 600 patients annually, and 6 Level I surgical beds, admitting over 200 patients yearly.

This full-time position is based on a 10 PA schedule, with 8 Direct Clinical Care and 2 Supporting Professional Activities, subject to final job plan approval. Applications from those seeking part-time work are welcome.

The successful candidate will provide general anaesthesia in the main theatre and day surgery unit, with out-of-hours work in theatres.

NHS Lanarkshire, Scotland’s third-largest health board, operates three hospitals: University Hospital Hairmyres, Wishaw, and Monklands. The hospital is involved in developing new care models for the upcoming digital hospital, set to open in 2030.

University Hospital Monklands offers a diverse practice environment and hosts major ENT, head and neck, and urology surgeries, along with general surgery, vascular access, and dental services.

Located in West Central Scotland, the hospital is accessible from urban, suburban, and rural areas.
