Salary: Grade L £50,269 - £53,460 a year
Location: Stores Road Depot, Derby
Hours: 37 hours a week

As the Highway Operations Manager, you will be taking the lead to shape its design, functionality, and long-term success—ensuring it meets the needs of our teams, our network, and our communities.

The Opportunity
In the role of Highway Operations Manager, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
• Leading the delivery of planned and reactive highway maintenance, winter services, and emergency response operations.
• Managing frontline teams and contractors to ensure high standards of safety, quality, and performance.
• Overseeing budgets, contracts, and service-level agreements to ensure value for money and operational efficiency.
• Driving innovation and continuous improvement in service delivery, with a focus on sustainability, commercialism and customer satisfaction.
• Collaborating with internal departments, external partners, and stakeholders to deliver integrated and responsive highway services, as well as civil engineering and construction projects.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, health and safety regulations, and environmental standards.
About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have…

• A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Highways Maintenance, or Construction Management
• A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Leadership and Management
• New Roads and Streetworks Supervisor Qualification
• Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme or IOSH Managing Safety Course
• Winter Services Supervisors Certificate
• A detailed working knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
• Excellent writing, numeracy and IT skills
• A full UK Driving Licence
