Junior Mechanical Estimator

Role Purpose
The junior mechanical estimator will support the preparation of mechanical building services tenders, assisting with take‑offs, pricing, supplier engagement, and general pre‑construction tasks. This role is ideal for someone early in their career who wants to build strong technical and commercial foundations within a busy M&E contracting environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in reviewing tender documents, drawings, and specifications to understand mechanical scope.
Support the preparation of cost estimates for HVAC, public health, and associated mechanical systems.
Carry out basic take‑offs and help compile pricing schedules.
Request and organise supplier and subcontractor quotations.
Help identify value‑engineering opportunities under guidance from senior estimators.
Contribute to tender submissions, including clarifications and supporting documents.
Maintain and update pricing databases, supplier lists, and internal records.
Provide general administrative and technical support to the estimating team.
Skills and Experience
Some experience or exposure to mechanical building services, estimating, or construction (placement, apprenticeship, or early‑career role).
Basic understanding of mechanical systems such as HVAC and public health.
Ability to read or willingness to learn how to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Competence with Microsoft Office; familiarity with estimating or take‑off software is beneficial.
Strong numerical skills and attention to detail.
Good communication skills and willingness to engage with suppliers and internal teams.
A relevant qualification or ongoing study in mechanical engineering or building services is advantageous.
