Description:
Activities involved:
The service conducts internal studies on Nuclear Island buildings to ensure safety functions during fires and compliance with UK codes and standards.
It collaborates with Building Leaders, safety teams, system engineers, civil engineers, and plant layout engineers.
Risk identification:
* Using 3D models and calculation methodologies, the Fire Engineer:
* Analyzes the 3D model for combustible materials in each area.
* Performs temperature change calculations over time for simulated fires using MAGIC software.
* Studies potential damage to systems, considering functional redundancy.
* Monitors and updates models with changes from engineering teams.
* Performs regulatory assessments for fire safety.
* Recommends fire protection measures to prevent or reduce fire outbreaks.
* Divides buildings into zones for fire protection.
* Recommends detection and firefighting methods for quick response.
* Performs fire protection calculations with specific software.
* Supports systems and contract teams in implementing fire requirements.
* Justifies departures from BS9999 standards.
Requirements:
* Degree-qualified engineer in safety and/or fire protection technologies; knowledge of ETCF (EPR fire code).
* Experience with UK Fire Regulations, including BS9999.
* Proficiency in fire protection calculations and tools.
* Ability to propose fire protection and detection solutions.
* Conscientious, enthusiastic, with good interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
