Job Title: EYFS & Year 1 Teaching Assistant

Salary: £13.75 – £14.20 per hour
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Skelmersdale, West Lancashire. This full-time temporary role is an exciting opportunity to work across both the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Year 1, supporting pupils as they build strong foundations for future learning.
The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers to support high-quality teaching and learning, helping children to thrive in a nurturing and engaging environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support teaching and learning across EYFS and Year 1, adapting approaches to suit different developmental stages.
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support to help pupils consolidate key skills in early literacy, numeracy, and communication.
* Assist in the delivery of phonics and guided reading sessions – experience in these areas would be highly advantageous.
* Promote positive behaviour, independence, and a love of learning.
* Support classroom organisation, displays, and preparation of learning resources.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure continuity and consistency between EYFS and Year 1 provision.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
* Minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
* Previous experience supporting children in an early years or Key Stage 1 setting.
* Understanding of child development and how young children learn through play and structured activities.
* Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
* A nurturing, patient, and positive approach to working with young learners.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
* First Aid certification.
* Experience delivering or supporting phonics and early reading programmes.
Working Conditions:
