Job Summary: Are you an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Clinical Pharmacist looking to work within a Major Trauma Centre offering tertiary services across a wide range of surgical specialties? Would you like to be an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, working towards consultant-level credentialing in a surgical specialty, while utilising your skills as a non-medical prescriber in inpatient and outpatient settings? Are you ready to develop your clinical and leadership skills by managing a team of advanced specialist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, while leading the pharmacy service for the Surgery Care Group and associated surgical areas? Do you want to be part of an innovative department with an ambitious 5-year strategy and workforce plan approved by the Trust Board? Further study and practice‑based research are supported; relocation and Recruitment & Retention Premia (RRP) may apply for external candidates.

This post will attract a Recruitment & Retention Premia (RRP) totalling £5,000, payable upon appointment, (covering 36 months of service) in addition to a relocation allowance (subject to eligibility). Responsibilities

* Provide a high-quality patient-focused clinical pharmacy service for patients within the Surgery Care Group; ensure pharmacy staff are deployed effectively to meet Trust needs (patient safety, flow, medicines reconciliations and discharges).
* Act as an advanced specialist pharmacist to the Surgery Care Group within your chosen area of practice.
* Share directorate lead pharmacist responsibilities for the Surgery Care Group alongside the Lead Pharmacist for Critical Care, Anaesthetics, Pain and Theatres.
* Lead the teaching and clinical supervision of pharmacy staff and other healthcare personnel; promote the safe use of medicines across the Care Group.
* Work with the associate chief pharmacist to establish roles for non-medical prescribers and advanced clinical practitioners; work towards credentialing as a consultant pharmacist within a surgical specialty.
* Develop and manage the delivery of pharmacy services to ensure efficient use of resources and monitor drug expenditure and medicines budget with delivery of financial savings.
* Lead on implementation of NHSE commissioning decisions relating to new technologies in Surgical Care Group; produce protocols and guidelines to ensure safe prescribing.
* Participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics and MDTs; review prescriptions, challenge treatment choices and communicate highly complex drug information to senior clinicians, managers, other professionals, patients and carers.
* Utilise non-medical prescribing and advance practice skills; monitor, review and report medicines-related incidents within the Surgery Care Group.
* Lead and co-ordinate the advanced specialist pharmacists within the Surgery Care Group; support wider Surgery pharmacy team and ensure training and competence of team members.
* Provide education and training to healthcare professionals including medical students; act as a role model as a clinical pharmacist and team leader.
* Engage in Quality Improvement and practice research; develop, implement and update clinical pharmacy policies relevant to Surgery Care group.


Qualifications

* Essential Qualifications: Master\'s Degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacy; current General Pharmaceutical Council registration; Postgraduate Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent; Non-medical prescriber (or willingness to undertake).
* Desirable Current Royal Pharmaceutical Society registration; active membership of Surgery & Theatres group within UKCPA or equivalent; UKCPA member; postgraduate leadership qualification; postgraduate specialization qualification.


Knowledge & Experience

* Excellent knowledge of clinical pharmacy and drug use across various surgical and medical specialties.
* Experience in providing pharmaceutical care to Surgical Care areas in inpatient and outpatient settings; leadership and management experience; strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
* Experience in policy and guideline development, teaching and training, and quality improvement initiatives; experience with non-medical prescribing and advanced practice in a surgical service line.
* Experience in budget management and delivering financial savings; ability to develop and implement pharmacy services at directorate level.
