Audit Manager

This is an excellent opportunity for an Audit Manager to join a well-established accountancy practice in Bideford. You’ll manage a varied audit portfolio, oversee end-to-end engagements and play a key role in mentoring and developing junior colleagues.
The Role
As Audit Manager, you’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality audit work from planning through to completion, ensuring both technical excellence and outstanding client service.
Key responsibilities include:
* Managing a portfolio of audit clients across a range of sectors.
* Leading audits from planning and risk assessment through to completion and file sign-off.
* Preparing audit strategies, budgets and resource plans, ensuring work is delivered efficiently.
* Reviewing audit files, working papers and statutory accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
* Acting as the main point of contact for clients, handling queries and providing practical, commercial advice.
* Managing and developing Audit Seniors, Semi Seniors and trainees through coaching and on-the-job support.
* Monitoring deadlines, workflow and engagement profitability.
* Identifying and resolving technical issues in line with professional standards.
* Supporting senior leadership with business development, proposals and client onboarding.
* Contributing to continuous improvement of audit processes and methodology.
About You
You’ll be a confident, technically strong audit professional with proven leadership and client-handling skills.
You will:
* Be ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent).
* Have significant external audit experience within a UK accountancy practice.
* Be confident managing audit assignments end-to-end and leading teams.
* Possess strong technical knowledge of auditing standards and UK GAAP / FRS 102.
* Have experience reviewing work, managing budgets and supervising staff.
* Be organised, proactive and comfortable handling multiple client deadlines.
* Demonstrate excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
* Be keen to progress toward Senior Audit Manager level over time.
