About The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed early career academic to join Sussex Law School, part of the School of Law, Politics and Sociology. You will play an active role in teaching and assessing undergraduate and postgraduate students across our LLB and, where appropriate, our MA and LLM programmes.

This is a balanced role, with around 60% teaching, 20% scholarship, and 20% administration and citizenship. You will contribute to high-quality student learning and support, while also developing your own scholarship and pedagogic expertise. The post is on the Education and Scholarship pathway, with mentoring and strong research support available.

As a Lecturer A (Grade 7), you will benefit from a reduced teaching load during probation, alongside remission to secure a recognised HE teaching qualification if not already held. We are looking for candidates with a passion for education, a commitment to the student experience, and the potential to grow as a scholar in their sub-discipline.

About You

You will be an enthusiastic and committed teacher of law, with a clear passion for delivering high-quality, inclusive education. You will bring the ability to engage and inspire students across our LLB and, where appropriate, postgraduate programmes, and a strong commitment to supporting students in their academic and personal development.

You will have a PhD in Law and a strong commitment to teaching excellence in higher education. You will have the skills to manage your own teaching and administrative workload effectively, while also working collaboratively with colleagues to contribute to the life of Sussex Law School. Strong communication skills will enable you to engage clearly with students, peers, and stakeholders, and to provide high-quality academic support.

You will be committed to enhancing the student experience through innovative teaching methods, responsiveness to student needs, and inclusive practice. While your primary focus will be on education and student support, you will also be keen to develop your scholarship in legal education or your chosen sub-discipline, with mentoring and support provided to help you do so.
