This post represents a unique opportunity to work across NHS Wales Health Boards, supporting improvements in National Major Trauma Registry (NMTR) data quality in line with the aims and objectives of the South Wales Trauma Network (SWTN). The post holder will:
•Gathering and presenting NMTR data at Network Governance meetings, Clinical & Operational Board meetings and Delivery Assurance Group meetings, monitoring NMTR data quality, and supporting the Operational Delivery Network (ODN) with Network level NMTR data requests.
• Leading and coordinating training and education for NMTR Coordinators and supporting new starters.
•Leading the NMTR forum which includes all NMTR coordinators across the South Wales Trauma Network.
• Identifying and solving issues/concerns and liaising with NMTR and the NMTR coordinators throughout the network, and reporting and clarifying to senior management.
• Supporting further improvements in data capture and data quality, the role will involve liaising with the developers of the Major Trauma Database to build on the information being captured by the database that is relevant to NMTR.
• Holding honorary contracts in every Health Board within the SWTN and will respond to issues locally as a trouble shooter, being able to go into LHBs and directly support their NMTR work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Management, Training & Leadership
• Leading on Training and Education for the NMTR Coordinators and deliver ongoing Induction to new staff to NMTR including the production of guides of best practice and training materials for new starters.
• Using developed skills, knowledge and expertise to deliver training and education in the use of multiple IT packages and systems including; clinical portal (clinical letters, discharge summaries), pathology systems, secure file sharing portal, electronic mortality review application (eMRA), Excel, Welsh PAS Reporting, RADIS, CAREVUE and TELEPATH etc.
• Maintaining knowledge and expertise in NMTR data collection and reporting systems, analysis, and documentation.
• Attend NMTR events within the Major Trauma Network and nationally, including training sessions, annual conferences and Network NMTR coordinator meetings.
• Provide training in clinical audit and effectiveness methodologies for clinicians and other staff.
• Provide advice and deliver training in clinical audit techniques for health care professionals from a range of clinical backgrounds and levels of seniority across the network.
• Ensuring that NMTR coordinator colleagues across the network have the skills necessary to collect and analyse data appropriately.
• Complete mandatory training requirements of the Health Board including those in relation to patient confidentiality, data security and protection.
• Ensure confidentiality and application of the Data Protection Act and the Freedom of Information Act within sphere of responsibility.
• Contribute to a culture that promotes a positive learning environment, staff engagement and continuous improvement.
Finance and Budget
• Using the Oracle requisition process, in adherence with the Health Board’s Financial Control Procedure and within scheme of delegation. Have a personal duty of care for NHS property and resources used to undertake the duties of this role.
Data Analysis & Reporting
• Supporting the SWTN ODN Team with tasks relating to NMTR data. Resolving Network NMTR information and data issues to support Network colleagues in the production of evidence-based data presentations to relevant colleagues, Boards, Forums and conferences/events.
• Attending and presenting NMTR data at Network governance meetings, Clinical and Operational Board meetings and Delivery Assurance Group meetings.
• Interpreting and distributing key NMTR dashboards and reports to key individuals across the Network to support timely discussion, quality improvement and action planning. This will include PROMS reports in future.
• Gathering information and data regarding trauma related activity required for local, network wide and national projects. Dealing with requests for NMTR data from clinicians and other colleagues across the Network.
• Analysing and interpreting NMTR data utilising statistical knowledge and presenting findings and evidence for the purpose of reporting local and network issues. Use the most appropriate method for analysing data for quantitative and qualitative themed analyses.
• Reporting regularly on NMTR data quality and quality improvement activities to the SWTN Research and Quality Improvement lead
• Liaising with the developers of the Major Trauma Database to build on the information being captured by the database that is relevant to NMTR, managing all data security in line with NHS requirements for data security and information confidentiality.
Research Development. Evaluation & Audit
• Supporting the South Wales Trauma Network with NMTR submissions and supporting Health Boards in the development of and reporting of NMTR data.
• Responding to issues locally as a trouble shooter, being able to go into LHBs and directly supporting their NMTR work.
• Responsible for the collection, collation and analysis of clinical and epidemiological data on trauma across all Health Boards in order to support NMTR Coordinators to populate the NMTR database, providing a basis for quality improvement, research and accountability. Utilising a high level of knowledge of medical/clinical terminology, interpreting and extracting clinical information from clinical records and systems as necessary, completing and returning the required dataset to NMTR from the point of injury to recovery. Retrieving and extracting information from various information sources, both papers based and electronic, including patient case notes.
• Encouraging all healthcare professionals to become involved in the clinical audit and effectiveness process and to ensure that the process is multi-disciplinary.
• Supporting the provision of training in clinical audit and effectiveness methodologies and the “Model for Improvement” to multi-disciplinary teams. Identifying and monitoring effective information pathways required for complete and accurate prospective and retrospective data collection on behalf of the Network for participation in NMTR including; the required dataset and any future initiatives (e.g. PROMs).
• Developing a unified approach to issues that affect all NMTR Coordinators across the Network to ensure consistency of approach.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Degree or equivalent skills, knowledge, and experience
2. Specialist knowledge of evidence-based practice, clinical effectiveness and clinical audit processes, procedures and methodologies.
3. Familiarity with NHS Clinical and Information systems and processes.
4. Extensive knowledge of NMTR, understanding of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS) & confidentiality issues, awareness of Data Protection Act and Information Governance.

6. Experience of working in a clinical audit and effectiveness department or similar in the NHS
7. Experience of working as a NMTR Coordinator/Facilitator. Extensive knowledge of medical terminology.

9. Working with all levels of staff throughout the organisation Experience of delivering training.
