King Edward VII’s Hospital is a 56‑bed private hospital in Marylebone with four operating theatres, delivering consultant‑led care across elective, day‑case, and inpatient surgery. The hospital offers a broad range of planned elective and day‑case surgeries, with a focus on high‑quality, consultant‑led private care. Surgical services include orthopaedic procedures, women’s health and gynaecology, urology, and general surgery. The hospital also delivers endoscopy, diagnostic procedures, ophthalmic surgery, dermatology and minor surgery, emphasising minimally invasive techniques, efficient patient pathways, and rapid recovery.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in positioning and preparation of patients as directed by the surgical team and ensure specimens are correctly labelled and dispatched to the laboratory.
* Control cross‑infection by observing departmental policy regarding dress, maintenance of a clean working environment, decontamination and sterilisation procedures, and asepsis.
* Participate in induction and orientation programmes for new staff to ensure a welcoming environment.
* Engage in Personal Development Plans with the Team Leader.
* Prepare patients for clinical/operative procedures, both anaesthetics and surgery.
* Provide assistance in clinical/operative procedures, both anaesthetics and surgery.
* Provide initial emergency care as required.
* Take charge of the clinical area in the absence of an advanced practitioner, ensuring patient, visitor and staff safety.
* Ensure all equipment is checked prior to use and report faults to the Theatre Co‑ordinator.
* Participate fully as a team member, working in all areas of the theatre suite, sharing knowledge and information, and supporting colleagues to promote a cohesive team and achieve team objectives.
* Adhere to procedures for the use of supplies and ordering requirements for the department as directed by line manager.
* Ensure accurate collection of data in relation to theatre activity.
* Maintain confidentiality at all times, releasing confidential information only to those acting in an official capacity in accordance with the Data Protection Act and its amendments.
* Maintain the safe custody and handling of drugs in accordance with hospital policy.
Key Skills / Qualifications
* RN – 1st level Registration Adult and/or Children
* Diploma or Degree in Health Care Studies
* ODA 752
* Minimum of 5 years hospital Scrub experience is essential
* Experience in major orthopaedics – Hips, Knees, Arthroplasty
* Evidence of Professional and Personal Development
