Neurology & neurosurgery residency

Marlow
The Ralph (Veterinary Referral Centre)
£40,000 - £60,000 a year
Posted: 24 November
Offer description

We invite applications for a
residency in Veterinary Neurology and Neurosurgery
at The Ralph Veterinary Referral Centre, commencing in January 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity to undertake advanced clinical and academic training within the
UK's largest non-corporate, multidisciplinary specialist hospital
in southeast England (Marlow). You will join our large team (~260 Ralphers) in a hospital with a busy referral caseload and excellent facilities.

This is a
three-year, full-time programme
providing comprehensive training in all areas required by an
ECVN-approved residency
. Applicants must be dedicated, enthusiastic veterinary surgeons with a strong interest in neurology and neurosurgery. To apply, you must have completed a one-year rotating internship or have equivalent broad-based clinical experience of at least two years. Additional qualifications, including a one-year neurology internship, are preferable.

The successful candidate will join our
large and talented Neurology and Neurosurgery team
, which includes three ECVN diplomates, one residency-trained clinician, two residents, three interns, and four neurology nurses.

At The Ralph, you will have access to
advanced neurodiagnostic equipment
, including 1.5T MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, an electrodiagnostic unit (capable of EMG, sensory and motor nerve conduction studies, BAER, and video EEG), and a vast array of neurosurgical equipment.

As a resident, you will
participate fully in clinical activities
– consultations, diagnostic procedures, neurosurgery, and inpatient care – while receiving close supervision and teaching. The programme includes
structured teaching and mentoring
sessions with senior neurologists and other residents,
regular off-clinic time
(at least one week in five) for research, publication, study, and external rotations, as well as exposure to a high neurosurgical caseload and a wide range of neurological presentations.

During the residency, you will work in
close contact with diplomates in all disciplines
, including Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Cardiology, Dentistry, Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Soft Tissue Surgery, and also our excellent Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation team.

You will receive
pastoral support
from within your service, as well as from our Resident and Vet Intern Support Officers and others. You will have regular check-ins and opportunities for feedback.

The Ralph workplace focuses on
core values, culture, vision and mission
. We are proud to be a centre with a strong emphasis on kindness, compassion, and ethical veterinary care. As a non-corporate hospital, we have the freedom to chart our own course and foster a supportive, values-driven culture.

Marlow is situated on the
River Thames, between Henley and Windsor, in southeast England
. This is a beautiful area with lovely walks, water-based activities and more. Our hospital is
conveniently located
just off the A404, offering easy access from the M4 and M40 motorways, and is close to London. Marlow is conveniently located, just 25 minutes from Heathrow Airport, 45 minutes from Luton Airport, and one hour from Gatwick or Stansted Airport.
