Microsoft Purview Administrator / Data Governance Support
Contract: 3 months
Rate: £650 per day
Location: Glasgow
IR35: Inside IR35
Candidates must have active SC Clearance (this normally means you have worked within UK government in the last 12 months)
Role Overview
This contract role provides hands‑on administrative and coordination support for the successful implementation of Microsoft Purview. The focus is on configuration, onboarding, and practical setup of data products and governance artefacts, ensuring alignment with established RBAC models and data governance frameworks.
You will play a key role in embedding Purview operationally, supporting both technical and business stakeholders, and ensuring governance processes are robust, accurate, and well‑documented.
Key Responsibilities
Purview Configuration & Access Management
* Support Microsoft Purview configuration, including RBAC roles, domains, and policies
* Manage user onboarding and access permissions in line with governance standards
Data Product Setup
* Create and configure data products within Purview
* Ensure accurate linkage to associated data assets and metadata
Metadata, Classification & Labelling
* Apply metadata labels, classifications, and glossary terms to data assets
* Maintain governance artefacts including business glossaries and classification frameworks
Governance Artefact Management
* Update and validate metadata, lineage, and asset relationships
* Support governance workflows, including approvals and controls
Operational Coordination
* Track implementation progress and maintain clear status reporting
* Collaborate with internal teams to resolve configuration, access, or asset‑related issues
Knowledge Transfer & Documentation
* Document configurations, processes, and governance practices
* Produce clear handover documentation to support ongoing administration post‑contract
Key Outputs & Deliverables
* Purview Configuration Log – Comprehensive record of configuration settings, RBAC roles, and domain structures
* Access Management Register – Up‑to‑date register of users, roles, and permissions aligned to governance requirements
* Data Product Catalogue – Fully configured data products with complete metadata and labelling
* Governance Artefact Repository – Maintained glossary terms, classifications, and applied metadata
* Implementation Progress Reports – Weekly updates covering completed tasks, onboarding status, and outstanding actions
* Process & Handover Documentation – Clear, step‑by‑step guidance enabling internal teams to continue administration independently
Key Stakeholder Relationships
You will work closely with:
* Data & AI teams
* Purview delivery and project teams
* Data owners and the wider data community
* Security, Legal, Compliance, Audit, and Architecture stakeholders
Essential Criteria
* Strong understanding of Microsoft Purview
* Hands‑on experience administering Purview, including RBAC and access control
* Solid knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and data product concepts
* High attention to detail with strong organisational skills
* Proven ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
