Contek are working with a high precision engineering company in King's Lynn who are currently seeking an experienced CNC Machinist, reporting to the Production Manager. This role is with an expanding and highly respected precision engineering company with an exciting future and strong growth prospects. The company specialises in the manufacture of high precision CNC machined metal and plastic components, supporting industries such as scientific instrumentation, aerospace, specialist automotive, defence, medical and other high technology sectors. Working hours are a 4-day week, Monday to Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm, with the opportunity for overtime based on operational requirements. INTRODUCTION my client are a subcontract manufacturer of high precision metal and plastic components which are used in high end applications. As such the products must be high quality and cosmetically pleasing and must be delivered on time. The volumes are usually small run batches of high value. The company partners with a limited number of prestigious customers where it is considered as preferred supplier and is expected to help with development work and prototyping. In essence, they are an extension of the customers own facility. Therefore, Customer Service is of paramount importance and underpins everything that we do. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION The primary purpose of the role is to manufacture the stated quantity of component parts according to provided job sheets and engineering drawings and CAD data (where applicable). This is to be done in accordance with the stated tolerances and surface finishes as detailed on the customer drawings. All required tooling and material will be provided. The job sheet will be provided based on the production schedule. The CNC Machinist (Turn/Mill) is responsible for ensuring the quality of the parts produced. Primary Tasks: 1. Check Job Sheet & Engineering Drawing: ensure that stated set and run times look reasonable, that material sizes look reasonable, that all required dimensions and tolerances appear on drawing. Check that any special tooling required is available. 2. Manufacture First Off part: ensure that parts are programmed and manufactured in the correct sequence according to the General Manager & / or the production schedule. Ensure that parts are manufactured efficiently and comply with dimensions / tolerances / surface finish using hand measuring instruments (where possible). 3. Seek approval of First Off: provide part to Inspection Department for checking and sign off. No job can commence until First Off Approval has been obtained in writing. 4. Be prepared to help colleagues with simple First Off requests when the Inspector is busy. 5. Manufacture Parts: ensure that parts are constantly checked for dimension and surface finish. Ensure parts are properly deburred and clean. 6. Optimising programs to improve manufacturing yield and drive down scrap 7. Ensure Accuracy Of Recorded Information On Job Sheet: record set time and run time for parts made. Record any observations regarding the manufacture of the part including material sizing. 8. Be prepared to run several machines simultaneously as and when appropriate. 9. Machine Maintenance: ensure that basic day to day maintenance checks are conducted and that lubricants are kept topped up. Ensure cleanliness of the machine and working area art all times. Ensure that hand measuring instruments are treated with respect and care at all times. 10. Tooling Maintenance: ensure that the set of tooling consumables issued to the machine is in serviceable condition. Dispose of any unserviceable tooling consumables and ensure that the General Manager is informed about new tooling consumable requirements for re-order. 11. Health & Safety: comply with all health and safety regulations and always ensure a safe system of work. 12. Consider improvement: always think about ways of doing things better and be prepared to present ideas to the General Manager. 13. ISO9001: comply with the ISO9001 quality management system. 14. Maintain Confidentiality: always maintain confidentiality of customer information. Essential Hard Skills Good knowledge of engineering materials and associated machining feeds and speeds. Strong ability to read and interpret Engineering Drawings. Strong ability to program, set and operate multi axis CNC machines (ideally Turn/Mill) Good knowledge of tooling and work holding Ability and confidence to conduct in depth inspection using CMMs Ability to manufacture jigs and fixtures in support of component manufacture. Desirable Hard Skills Knowledge and use of CAM systems Mazatrol / ISO programming ability 5 Axis (32) experience Ability to use manual mills and lathes
