Job overview
We are recruiting a dietitian to join our multidisciplinary nutrition support team (NST) comprising a range of healthcare professionals. The role focuses on parenteral nutrition (PN) and intestinal failure and rehabilitation (IF&R), providing care to patients on PN both in hospital and at home, and supporting the intestinal transplant dietitian and team lead.

Main duties of the job
In collaboration with the Intestinal Failure and transplant team and the Team Lead, you will:
* Develop and provide a highly specialist, evidence‑based dietetic service to patients treated with intestinal failure at the Trust.
* Provide clinical oversight and care to in‑patients on total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and support the multidisciplinary team in planning and discharge of PN‑fed patients.
* Coordinate the dietetic service for home PN and complex enterally fed patients, including remote follow‑up and multidisciplinary clinic appointments.
* Train other dietitians in this speciality and lead professional development initiatives.
* Develop and implement standards, protocols and guidelines for IF and TPN across the Trust.
* Assess patients’ nutritional status using anthropometric, biochemical, dietary and validated assessment methods.
* Maintain accurate documentation in electronic patient records and communicate effectively with patients, carers and other health professionals.
* Contribute to governance, audits, research and presentation of findings at national or international conferences.
* Provide clinical supervision, mentoring and training to Band 5, Band 6 and student dietitians.

Clinical responsibilities
* Provide specialist clinical care and support for IF patients locally and nationally.
* Lead and coordinate dietetic provision within the multidisciplinary team.
* Review and adjust TPN prescriptions based on patient need and biochemistry.
* Coordinate professional development and standardise care across ICUs and other units.
Organisational responsibilities
* Collect and analyse audit data; collate and share outcomes for IF patients.
* Maintain accurate documentation and record keeping.
* Communicate changes in IF care to relevant agencies and teams.
Management responsibilities
* Participate in and lead audits to monitor practice and recommend service improvement.
* Supervise and develop less‑experienced dietitians and student dietitians.
* Lead development of the specialist dietetic service, ensuring equity and evidence‑based practice.
* Provide specialist advice, teaching and training to multidisciplinary teams.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Recognised Nutrition & Dietetic Degree or equivalent
* Registered with HCPC as a Dietitian
* Evidence of postgraduate training equivalent to Masters level in this clinical area
* Member of the British Dietetic Association
* Member of a relevant Specialist Interest Group
* Evidence of training as a clinical supervisor
* Evidence of leadership training
Experience
* High level of specialist dietetic knowledge/skills in IF & TPN
* Comprehensive knowledge of artificial nutrition support, enteral and parenteral
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of national policies and guidelines
* Evidence of research, audit and project work
* Experience in developing, planning, delivering and evaluating education and training programmes
* Experience of student training, supervision and assessment
Skills
* Reflective practice with peers or mentees
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including with language barriers
* Computer/IT literate
Other relevant factors
* Able to travel to clinical sites and training venues across the county efficiently
