They are seeking a casualty solicitor (2-6 years PQE) to join their Casualty team in Leeds.
The current team includes a Partner, 2 Senior Associates, an Associate, a Solicitor, 2 Trainees, and 2 Paralegals.
As a Solicitor/Associate in the Casualty team, you will manage a diverse caseload, providing defendant work to insurers on disputes related to employers liability and public liability, including sectors like social care, equine, and construction.
You will support the Head of Department in supervising and delegating to junior team members, with responsibilities depending on your experience, and contribute to departmental goals. The role involves working on a mix of fast track, intermediate, and multi-track cases primarily funded under legal expenses insurance policies.
What you'll be doing:
* Providing advice to insurers on Employers Liability and Public Liability matters
* Managing your own caseload, including recommending reserves and setting strategies under supervision
* Supporting the Head of Department in supervising paralegals and achieving departmental targets
* Setting and delivering personal and team objectives, monitoring performance, and guiding team members
* Handling a mixed caseload of fast, intermediate, and multi-track defendant work
* Expanding knowledge into new legal areas
* Delivering clear, pragmatic legal advice considering legal and commercial factors
* Providing efficient, courteous client service
* Meeting billing and key performance indicators
* Maintaining files according to standards and procedures
* Opportunities for further qualifications and industry understanding, contributing to the success of a large insurance company
Our must-haves:
* Experience in defendant personal injury litigation, including EL/PL and professional liability claims
* Knowledge of clinical negligence, Animals Act 1971, and policy coverage is a plus
* Understanding of Civil Procedure Rules
* Ability to manage own caseload with supervision
* Strong communication and organizational skills, with good IT proficiency (Microsoft Office 2010, case management systems like Partner for Windows)
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
* High attention to detail and accuracy
* Excellent client care and communication skills at all levels
* Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
* Effective team player with a positive attitude
