Join to apply for the Social Work Manager - Safeguarding & Support Service role at WMJobs. This is a permanent contract based in Herefordshire Council, South Locality – Ross-on-Wye. Working hours are 37 per week. Salary is HC11 £51,356 - £55,915 (plus market supplement of £5,000 per year making £56,356 - £60,915). A welcome payment of £10,000 is available (see attached guidance). A relocation package of up to £10,000 is also available. Closing date: 12/10/2025.
The Role
We are looking for a Social Work Manager to help us on our improvement journey and to gain the best for children and families in Herefordshire. You will manage one of five social work teams undertaking Safeguarding & Support work. You will have experience in child in need and child protection work, PLO pre-proceedings, care proceedings and adoption work. You will manage a team of social workers and family support workers with input from a Managing Practitioner within our locality structure. You will provide high-quality supervision and case direction, focusing on improving outcomes for children. You will be organised, a strong communicator and decision-maker, and you will work as part of a service management team to embed good practice with a focus on relationship-based and restorative practice.
Responsibilities
* Manage a social work team (social workers and family support workers) with input from a Managing Practitioner.
* Provide supervision, case direction and ensure high-quality service delivery for safeguarding and support work.
* Lead on improving outcomes for children and young people within a restorative practice framework.
* Work as part of a service management team and contribute to governance and service development.
Qualifications and Experience
* Fully qualified Social Worker (Degree in Social Work or equivalent).
* Significant post-qualification social work experience, with evidence of CPD and Social Work England registration.
* Experience in managing staff and budgets and delivering service and quality improvements.
* Proven ability to deliver effective outcomes and to work within a locality-based model.
