Senior Quantity Surveyor – Balfour Beatty plc
Inspiring infrastructure is built here. Join our Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick team as a Senior Quantity Surveyor and contribute to projects that matter. You will be based at Westlakes office with occasional site visits to Sellafield, Seascale and Cumbria.
What you’ll be doing
As an Engineering Construction Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will manage commercial activities on complex industrial projects – such as power generation, water treatment, energy infrastructure and nuclear decommissioning. You will:
* Lead cost management, contract administration and commercial reporting across multidisciplinary engineering projects.
* Work closely with technical teams to manage interfaces and support successful project delivery.
* Minimise project costs and enhance value for money while meeting required standards and quality.
* Maintain your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and remain a Chartered Member of the RICS, ICES or CIOB.
* Mentor and support junior commercial staff to grow their professional qualifications.
Who we’re looking for
* Must be able to pass a DBS check as part of BPSS Security Clearance.
* Clean driving licence.
* Can work in the UK.
* Good Excel skills (including formulas and pivot tables).
* Experience of working on large‑scale engineering construction projects.
* Ability to lead and mentor junior commercial staff.
* Ability to analyse data, be proactive, organised, dynamic and possess strong communication skills.
* Understanding of and adherence to the company’s governance requirements and maximisation of LEAN/digital opportunities.
* Commercial Management and Administration with NEC4 experience.
* Subcontract procurement and management of subcontract packages.
* Oversight of change management including pricing compensation events.
* Assist with the preparation of the monthly Cost and Value Reconciliation (CVR).
* Preparation of the application for payment, accurate cost forecasting and reporting.
* Cost audit, stakeholder management and use of CEMAR.
The following are essential
* BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent knowledge.
* MRCIS/MCInstCES/MCIOB or working towards them.
* CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person).
* Good knowledge of NEC4.
* Strong commitment to CPD and professional development.
