Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Social Worker to join the Child in Need / Child Protection Team in Macclesfield, Cheshire. This ongoing locum role offers the chance to work within a dynamic and supportive children’s services team while making a meaningful difference to the lives of vulnerable children and families.
Based at Macclesfield Town Hall, you will be part of a dedicated team of five Social Workers supported by a Family Support Worker and a Team Manager. The service manages a wide range of responsibilities including initial referrals, statutory assessments, child protection work, pre-proceedings, and care proceedings.

What You Will Do
Respond to initial referrals and undertake comprehensive statutory assessments.
Develop and implement effective support plans for children in need and those subject to child protection procedures.
Work collaboratively with professionals across multiple agencies to provide coordinated support for families.
Attend and contribute to court proceedings, case conferences, and multi-agency meetings.
Participate in a duty rota system, providing cover one day per week to manage urgent referrals and immediate safeguarding concerns.
Regularly review and evaluate cases to ensure children’s safety, wellbeing, and positive outcomes.
Requirements
Social Work England registration.
Proven experience within children’s social work, particularly in Child in Need and Child Protection services.
Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and statutory frameworks related to children and families.
Excellent assessment, case management, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and manage a varied caseload.
