Clinical Scientist - Radiation Safety & Diagnostic Radiology Physics
To support and assist with the management and provision of specialised diagnostic radiology physics support, radiation safety services, patient and personal dosimetry to the Trust and to other organisations who have contracts with Clinical Physics. The post holder will be expected to work on all Trust sites and to travel to sites where external contracts are held. The post holder will supervise some aspects of the Band 5 assistant physicist activity and assist with supervision of clinical scientist trainees. This role will also support the delivery of a large number of research approvals performed by the physics service.
Main duties of the job
The post‑holder will contribute to many aspects of the Department's work, including testing of radiation and imaging equipment, data handling and analysis, support for research trials, audits and software development work.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* BSc (Hons) Physics or equivalent.
* MSc in Radiation Physics or equivalent experience.
* NHS STP training in medical physics or equivalent experience.
* Registered Clinical Scientist or expectation to achieve registration within 1 year.
* Knowledge of the HRA research study approval process.
* Progress towards any of RPA, RWA or MPE portfolios.
Experience
* Relevant experience in radiation safety applied to the use of ionising radiation in healthcare and diagnostic radiology physics.
* Able to perform test a wide range of diagnostic X‑ray imaging equipment – simple to mid‑range systems yourself, more complex systems with supervision.
* Proficient in Excel, Word, Access: able to set up databases and spreadsheets and extract information.
* Understanding of patient and staff risks arising from radiation exposure and of the image quality requirements for a range of diagnostic imaging procedures.
* Able to produce written reports within a defined timescale.
Skills
* Able to understand and operate a wide range of diagnostic imaging equipment.
* Able to analyse complex data.
* Able to devise methods of analysing data.
* Able to interpret and apply relevant guidance and legislation.
* Able to work off‑site alone according to SOPs and to use initiative in non‑standard conditions.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Able to communicate complex information to many different groups of staff, i.e. at a range of levels.
