The Role
As a Financial Accountant, you’ll play a vital role in shaping and strengthening the financial foundations that support some of the UK’s most critical defence, engineering and infrastructure programmes. This is an opportunity to be part of a central accounting function that underpins national security projects work that truly matters.
Day-to-day, you’ll help standardise and optimise finance processes across Babcock’s UK operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a strong control environment.
* Support the development and optimisation of finance processes and controls, with a focus on general ledger and balance sheet activities.
* Assist with the transition of Babcock business sectors into SAP systems.
* Manage tasks aligned to detailed month‑end timetables.
* Support month‑end close activities across UK entities.
* Prepare and approve routine journals with strong documentation and control focus.
This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days onsite and days working from home. Will need to travel to team meetings once a month.
Essential Experience
* Strong, hands‑on experience within a finance function, ideally within a complex and international organisation.
* Solid working knowledge of general ledger accounting and balance sheet reconciliations.
* Demonstrates commercial awareness and an understanding of the wider business environment.
* Proficient in Microsoft 365, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook.
* Experience using finance IT systems such as SAP, Navision, IFS, BPC or TMS.
Qualifications
* Qualified Accountant or qualified by experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) / security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
